Thanks Bob!I can help with that one
Its an irregular verb but one of the easier ones.
run - present
ran - past
Run - past participle
I did run is understandable but grammatically incorrect.
I never thought I’d see Participle in this forum. This guy’s head might explode
(Math degree and a one time interest in being an actuary)
Don't think so. @Dafsade learnt English in school by learning the three parts together. The easiest way. Biggest problem is school kids often have to learn 50 verbs at once without using them, so you forget too easily.! My kids went through the French system.I never thought I’d see Participle in this forum. This guy’s head might explode

Don't be scared, it is in English !
I'm from Norfolk - number 8 is missing one!
Bare....Bear....Beer
(and don't forget number 5 is missing Chile - the country - too)
(and technically 'Close' and 'Clothes' aren't homophones)

(number 5 has some spelt wrong - should be Chili - Chilli - Chilly. It's also missing Chile - the country - too)
(EDIT : and technically 'Close' and 'Clothes' aren't homophones)
(DOUBLE EDIT : and Hostel and Hostile are different too. Apart from THAT it's a good article )
So........math good, English bad.
We need :
- one American
- one British
- one Australian
- one Irish
- one South African
- who do I forget ?
It’s a pity you can’t attach sound files to these posts. I would love to hear some of you (ie native English speakers) read that phrase slowly so we (all the others) could feel the difference...
From the 9, I can identify the difference in 5 only...
I’ve opened it as mp3. Worked perfectlyHere's it in my General American English accent:

Though I think it needs Flash enabled, so won't work in all browsers
Edit: Looks like you can download it in other formats, so even if you can't run Flash you should be able to hear it.
New Zealand, Scotland, Wales, India, Canada (very similar to American, there are only a handful of things that are usually distinctive), Jamaica.
Both within the US and UK there are tons of regional variation as well.
I voted for both "I ran" and "I did run" as being correct. However, they are not usually interchangeable.
"I did run" is usually used when correcting another person's mistaken belief.
A: That mean dog from across the street got out of its yard today and bit me.
B: You should have run!
A: I did run! But it ran even faster.
