@jimstreet - Though excavation maps cost $2,000. each, they are well worth it. They will add to our destination stars, and as stated yesterday, you can get collections that will enable to you to obtain monuments, buildings and other things that will increase your population, passenger levels and also drop a collectible space item once per day. You will also be able to obtain 1 gold token for each completion of a collection. There are only a couple of ways to get gold tokens (Which can then be used to purchased S1, S2, S3 planes, golden planes, mints, banks and casinos, etc.)
As for the Duty Free shop, that's a touchy subject with many people around here. Some find it useful, others find it to be a PITA - And, in some cases, like @Agent_L, "A waste of space and power". Then you have @Captain WH Rollins problem, which is that it won't collect until at least 3 generations after he passes (23,000 days or something like that). It's basically a personal choice. I have a Duty Free shop on Ten, but not on Ten2.
As for Cape Canaveral, Baikonur, North / South Observatory, you'll be flying to those destinations the rest of the game to pick up space launch items...
