Windows - Weekly Trading Thread - July 4th 2016

Hoping someone can help me. I'm going to have to upgrade to windows 10 soon and wondered if there are any recommendations so that I can be as safe as possible with my game. I do the usual backup of playerprefs.dat, ProfileHashtable.bin, SaveGame.bin, SaverProfile.bin and SaveProfile_backup.bin. Anything else I should backup or take screen shots of?

It should go pretty smoothly, I didn't have any issues with it that I can remember. It's always a good idea to take screenshots of your airport and city, to show what you did have in case something does go the wrong way on you.

Also screenshots of gold tokens, silver tokens, QL's, collectible buildings, etc. Of course, as one member just told me yesterday, it doesn't always work. He had about 300 + / - gold tokens, and almost 5,000 silver, and had a screenshot of it, but they didn't reimburse him for those.

Sooo, whaddya gonna do?

Thanks, Dave! I'll take screenshots of everything as you suggest. Fortunately I haven't spent any actual money on the game, so if it doesn't go well, at least I'm not out anything but time. Fingers crossed! On second thought maybe I'll try it in the morning instead!

@wydaho I am curious to read about your experience with the upgrade. I am hestitating to upgrade to Win10, too. But the offer runs out soon

to my fellow neighbors, I am planning to build a Sweets Factory soon, so I added the items to my signature. But there is no hurry. MCC3 and red launch pad are coming first

That's @Kesh. He's a phone player that has a bug. It will show him sometimes as, "Shekee", and you can't visit him when this happens, or see his launches.. Then, he will go back to his normal "Kesh", in which case, you can visit him and join his launches.

Cath, my experience with the upgrade to win10 from win8.1 was horrible to say the least! The free upgrade from microsoft worked for three days, but a feature of win10 little discussed is that it automaticly downloads and updates win10. I received an update ending in ...1511 which destroyed most of my files and left win10 75% unuseable.It ended my access to AC game as well. In trying to load my backups, win10 would not allow the backups to load. GI support gave me several codes to restore my game, but nothing worked and I was forced to start over(my porvillewright game was at level 55 and 162 stars) as pwilberwright.
My IT people at the base advised me to buy a full version of win10 as my laptop was personal property. Then, they used the full version on my laptop and were able to give me a fully working win10 (which also allowed me to load 90% of my backups, but no games). I took my older laptop still using win8.1 and put airport city on it and am using it to this day - I have a support AC game on my win10 laptop as the canary in the coal mine(an update from GI gets run on it before I take the update and process it on my win8.1 laptop)
My IT people tell me that the free upgrade from microsoft is full of bugs especially when it overlays either win 8.0 or 8.1.
Just my experience...

Thanks - I will make sure to keep him (and his planetariums) for when it goes back - I have the same problem with Joe who becomes a/whiteboard sometimes

I upgraded from Windows 8.1 Home edition.

My wife has been trying to upgrade on our Dell laptop (No AC game),, but hasn't had much luck. It gets into a loop and won't complete.

Not sure if it's Dell, or MS though.

@porvillewright Yikes! This is what I was afraid of and why I asked. My husband upgraded from Windows 7 and hasn't had any issues, but neither does he play AC. I'm on 8.1 Pro and maybe given your experience I'll stay on it. I use my laptop for both personal and work, and it would be horrible to lose files like you did!

My IT people deleted any remaining win8.1 on my newer laptop and installed a complete win10 on it and it worked(except for the backup versions of two games(one of which was AC)). As you say you use yours for work, perhaps you can deduct the cost of a win10 disk on taxes. I'd also suggest waiting until GI brings out the update to airport city in windows to see whether it runs well on win8.1. If not, then the upgrade to win10 may be necessary!

Yeah, it's something I need to do, because she's not really one for doing it. Is a whiz with excel spreadsheet and all kinds of other stuff, but not so much the inner workings. Will have to check on that one day when she's out and not on it.
