It is a known glitch in the game. Delete the awaiting reply and have the other player send you an invite and you will both be connected.

Having strange thing with gifts - looks like every day "reset hour" for my gifts is moving for one hour, Las three days I had "time traveler..." stupid messages - maybe that's why? This evening I will start killing the game for the night...
