Just incase I should happen to drop off the radar, Tropical Depression 11F turned into Cylone Tam yesterday, it ploughed into the top of the North Island and is slowly making it's way south. This one is nasty!! It is expected to intensify over night, 1000's already without power, trees down, wind gusts up to 130kph. Easter is cancelled.

It came on suddenly, it was a tropical depression that turned into a full on cyclone overnight, and is intensifying as it moves south. It's not directly above us, it's in the Tasman Sea, we are being lashed by it's outer edges (and that's bad enough). Yes, I'm always prepared :)

Glad you are prepared! I am basically always prepared for a hurricane or tornado.
I hope you aren't on the "dirty side". (for those who don't know, that's the right side relative to the direction of travel of the cyclone/hurricane -- more rain and higher wind speeds).

Unfortunately we are on the dirty side, excuse my french, but it is absolutely pissing down here, and with the wind we have horizontal rain

Oh dear. I know you said you are prepared, but preparing for flooding is a different beast. (my house has flooded a few times)
If you don't know... get everything important (anything that can be ruined by water) at least a foot up off the floor. Do not try to stop the flooding with towels because that just leads to more laundry afterwards. Unplug everything you can.
(apologies if you know this already :) )

Probably a very slim chance of us flooding here, but thank you anyway :) we are 107ft (33 meters) above sea level and on volcanic soil (lots of pumice in it). The last time we flooded (the main street, not the suburbs) was because we have a lot of trees around here that lose their leaves in winter, the town's stormwater drains got blocked up with leaves and couldn't cope with the amount of rainfall.

Oh, I was wrong. In the southern hemisphere, the dirty side is on the left. I should have known that.
I am sure kiwi knows which side they are on.

It is off our west coast (towards australia), in the Tasman Sea, so New Zealand is east of it, or on the right-hand side :) I was never any good at directions, but I think that's correct. Not a good day to peg the washing out, you may never see it again :ROFLMAO:
