Yes, if you launch before the countdown ends you will get the planetarium. As far as I know, you don't have to be in first place, you only have to successfully launch. This means you can start a launch or join a launch. Many neighbors post here to announce launches: https://www.airportcitygame.com/threads/launching-progress-for-lunar-missions.5570/page-17
My lunar lands at about 8 PM California time. Let me know your progress and I will join you ... or you can join me.

Just need one armillary sphere to complete Distant Prospects collection, which will allow me to launch...am about to go about my last 12 visits to my good neighbours to click on their planetariums to see if I can drop it....

Should it be straight forward to launch?
