Comparing to the old prize, Ski Resort (1 item a day) + Merry Manor (+15% r1 pass), this workshop looks rather lame.
But Ivan said we can buy something special for Candy Canes. What can it be?
There's no update for Windows yet and I can't check it myself.

This is what’s currently available in the store. Other than for decoration, the buildings look useless to me but I’m not sure.

If buildings just increase population by 3...15 they are useless indeed.
I find Fuel Additive and Bowl of Riches interesting a little. They are 1hr versions of Secret Faucet and Spy Glass as their description says.
All in all, the event became shinier but with certain loss in prizes.
Surely better than bleak and depressing in all aspects Santa's Bad Mood last year.

what else to spend the candy canes on, they are free with each flight to get items etc

i need more sleighs
my support got 4 sleighs from 50 neighbours elves
i got 1 grrrr

I saw it more than once when a support account wins an event lazily without breaking a sweat and your main account struggles like crazy to get another item.

Did you notice that the bug that makes the flights not counting when you aren't there to land the planes also applies to presents delivered by sleight ? I received a South America ball and my side quest shows 0/2

I have 1 skating park just now and currently building an ice castle and another skating rink

I was trying to work out why the reward building would drop candy canes.
But, then I noticed that there isn't a Complete button, so the event side completes (and drops stop I guess) as soon as the criteria are met. But the candy cane stuff must go on for the full duration.

Is that how others understand it?

It looks as though none of the event buildings can be stored afterwards, just sold. That's a shame.

Is anybody flying to destinations required gifts? I am curious what the drop rates are. Five continents with 40 flights = 200 flights. Is it enough to complete "Five Continents" collection 3 times. In a day or two I'll have all gifts and now I am thinking about the strategy, bonuses etc. If I am not mistaken, I have 5 balls from last year resulted from 39 flights. It's 120 flights for 15 drops (well, this will never happen though )
The other thing is does "Lucky Horseshoe" help in getting more items required to build event building (Freezer, Snowmaker etc)

Horseshoe seems to help. Watch out tho - it is 4 hours OR 20 flights, whichever is first. If you are doing fast return, it will get used up mighty quick. I was getting decent drops, but after my 20th flight (no more horseshoe) I got only candy canes.

I thought it would do something like rainbows in normal flights.

That does sound right. But drops do seem better with the Horseshoe. Maybe just coincidence.

1. Get a hangar
2. Get a sleigh
3. Three star lapland.
4. Start flying to the other destinations.
5. You should start being able to build the buildings such as igloo, Santa's house, etc.

My plan (and it might be a bad one) is to concentrate on obtaining sleighs and sending them to Lapland. That seems to be the core.
Once I've got enough sleighs, I'll stop using neighbour visits to visit elves and use it to visit winter buildings, for the third objective.
