General Red/Any Launch

Having never done this before, I have a question. I have currently selected a red launch (the question extends to blue and green launches), but, as I have no neighbours currently on the pad, I have not started my own launch. Does anyone know how long it will stay on the screen where I chose a neighbours launch or start my own? Does it stay there forever until I chose a neighbours launch or start my own?

Unfortunately it does till you launch and you cannot do any other type of launch until the red is completed.

Either by joining another or starting your own and letting it fail if you do not have enough items for a successful launch.
