Top player in my group has 133,298 points already, just two hours into the event? How is that even possible. Second place currently has 14,042. This person in first place currently has more points than the next FIFTEEN players combined.

OK...so what your are saying is that an additional 8 hours is enough to rack up 130K points?? The event is 11 days. My observation was at 10d 22h. Considering the refresh rates of the 1060 and 400 point tasks, feel free to make an argument that explains how someone accumulates that number of points in 2 hours. I'll hang up and listen...

I don't know why someone (most players) would want to, but you can instantly refresh the tasks with airport cash. The amount of airport cash used to reset that many tasks would not be regained by completing the league in first place. However, with the correct buildings the airport cash wouldn't matter as it would be the other rewards of completing in first place that the player would most likely be going for.
You should check out their city and look for some casinos, banks, and/ or mints.

Yeah, I'm familiar with refreshing tasks with airport cash--that's just part of the game for those who seek to buy a win. I'm not bothered by that, as I know this is a game that is won with real money. I'm just stating that I don't think there is any way that someone can legitimately accumulate that many points in just two hours. Maybe this person is a Saudi prince and just spent a few thousand $$ greenies? I've played for several years, and I've NEVER seen anyone in first place with more points than the next 15 players combined.

It takes 234points/ac. So, if he spend 569 AC, then all those missions are available. But, clearing the mission in time would require other resources.
I would not spend 1AC for any acceleration as I am playing events to gain AC and tokens. That is about $50 real cash but I suspect he might have gotten AC for free ( cheat code perhaps? )
Actually, above is if you clear all missions. But if you only clear and refresh 1060 missions, then it is 1060/1AC. So, 133,298 would only require 125AC or little over $10US. Even if he did not cheat ( personally I would not spend $10 for 130k points), it hardly require Saudi prince.
To prevent this sort of thing, top mission should require 1 then 2 for middle and 4 for the bottom.

If in China, it is normal for some rich people to spend tens of K or even 100K RMB in a game.
Even some very rich people will send money to organize a team to reimburse your plane or high-speed rail expenses, food and accommodation expenses, and living expenses.

I was playing the event yesterday before 6am local my time. This thread was started more than 10 hours after that. I am willing to bet that the player was playing for more than 2 hours.
Just because the Wiki says that this event is an 11 day event doesn't mean that G! pushes the event start button at exactly 11 days. G! starts the event when they please around 11 days +/- hours or days based on G!'s timeline.

It's not just about the cost of refreshing the tasks, it's also about the time it would take to do it. Some tasks (like completing one flight to a destination) are easy and can be completed very quickly. Other tasks (i.e. waiting for a specific item to drop) can take a while if you're unlucky. Well, this is interesting...
...after I made the initial post, for a few days, this person never put up another point. I just looked now, and he/she has disappeared?? The person's game name was "Sprollie." I took a screenshot 5 days ago with that player at 133,298 points. Just took a screenshot now and that player has vanished. Current leader has 118,729.
