Is your game online? This often happens simply due to losing internet connectivity.
There was also a small in-game update on Android today which might play a role but for me the game was lagging\crashing but stopped after update.

I have had the same thing happen to me multiple times. Close and restart your game. If that does not work, restart the device as well. I am using a Windows computer. One further note, if I have an update for anything pending on Windows, the game does not work correctly. Took me a while to figure all of this out but it fixes the issues for me. Hope this helps.
