iOS How to ask for a specific item from neighbors?

Hi guys, Just started the game 2 weeks ago and currently on level 26. Have about 15 neighbors now. I've just noticed sometimes that my neighbors are able to send me request for a specific item (all I have to do is tapping Send button or ignore it) but I can't find anywhere to do the same?

I think you are probably confusing the return button that appears when you collect a gift from a neighbor.
There is no way in game to ask for a specific gift except to change your name and add the gift in the name.
You being on ios can not do that currently but soon an update is coming that will allow it.
That is where this forum comes in handy you can accumulate neighbors here then use their
signatures to send gifts they want and they in return will do the same.

Introduce yourself and state you are looking for new neighbors. You can also post in the windows trade
thread which is weekly rather than daily. Once you get neighbors from here gifts will start to be traded to and fro.
Depending on how many neighbors others have you may have to wait a day or two between gifts. Many players
have multiple accounts to alleviate that delay. After a short time you will be getting plenty of gifts daily and they
will be what you need. Do have a look at some of the signatures and set one up of your own so others can se what
you need. If you hover over your username at the top right of the page a menu will pop up just click signature.
Then type what you want to and save.

thanks WP. I already have a number of neighbors and they do send me random items sometimes. My question is how the system works. For example, the other day my neighbor sent me an Anti-Theft Gate. After clicking Take, it turned to Fuel with Send button. I'm just curious if my neighbor really asked for the Fuel or the game did.

Also, hope you don't mind if I ask another dumb question: what's that Duty Free for? It costs me some greens to upgrade but it seems not useful for anything. And looks like it costs some gold to trade. It trades with neighbors?

The item that shows up depends on your gifting list and how upgraded your buildings are. So with the anti theft gate that is used
for the level 2 duty free. For you it changed to fuel as either you have upgraded past that point and do not have a level 2 duty free item
in your gift list or you are not high enough level to have the level 2 duty free item opened. You could also be below the level 2 and have not opened the gift because you have not opened up that gift slot. It is a bit confusing and not worth trying to figure out completely. I believe there is a list somewhere on this forum describing it better and levels needed etc for gifting slots.
If you try and move forward with neighbors that are not forum members that you can actually communicate with your progress will slow considerably as you progress. If you get the neighbors from here you can actually proactively get items ahead of time so when you want to upgrade it is no issue with needed items and your gifts will always be what you need/want.
The duty free is a waste yes. You have to waste gifts received from neighbors and get the items needed to trade in for a minimal amount of gold. The flight items needed to progress are far better to stock pile than worrying about duty free. Also when you get your space program up one launch will net you more than duty free and you can do quite a few once you have learned the ins and outs of how to collect the items and launch with friends and QL bonuses.

He didn't asked for anything. He just sent you item X.
Your game can either return X, something else that's "equivalent" to X or if it can't do any of above you can return Fuel (3).

Think of that fuel as "consolation gift" or "placeholder". Your game offers to send it when it can't come up with anything better.

You can check out the thread linked in my sig, it's about the "slots" concept. It changed a bit, because earlier you always returned the item from the slot, whenever the slot was active or not. Now it turns into Fuel if the slot is inactive. (Active slots are those you can see on the outgoing gifts page). Because of that it's much less useful knowledge, but if you want to understand it, the principle remained.
