Hello All,
This is the story of how I got the Space needle, or so I thought ...
(I hope it can help you in planing and suceeding in gathering the necessary items to complete the colections and prepare well enough to avoid dissapointments. Don't hesitate to ask questions it i can share my experience and findings.)
After carefully reading the forum posts on Adventure flights and the reward buildings, I decided to go for it too. The fact that a Pyramid or a Coliseum is providing collection items was very appealing to me.
So I purchased maps from Duke and sent my planes to gather maps … I bought 10 of each excavation maps and spent 200.000 coins. After having used all these excavation maps, that 100 of them, I got 1 map to Carthage. I must say I was disappointed and realized I wouldn’t be getting any Pyramid or other special building soon.
Anyway, after a few red launches I got 3 or 4 maps for destination to complete The Outer Limits collection and be able to get the Space needle. That’s 5 collections to complete so 25 items to collect from these destinations.
I prepared the best I could, saving fuel and passengers for a while to increase what I already got from neighbors, ranking or rocket launches … But with no exact idea on how many flight I had to complete I was in the dark. I read the post by @Bali Hi who explained his strategy using as many planes possible and the fuel catalyst combine with a good timer to maximize the number of take offs per activated map. This is what I needed! (BTW, thanks for this post, and the thread with all the good advises). I was just lacking time, and the Golden Dice…
So I want to tell you how I did it:
I check my calendar for a free week end, where I could spend some time playing, especially follow a time table to use the fuel catalysts at a specific time. This was supposed to be next week end, but !
Last evening, wrapping up the last emails at work, I opened my game to collect coins and passengers, send a plane or 2, and buy the Golden Dice … which got activated right away !!! which wasn’t expected at all. I thought it would be available in the warehouse alongside some other bonuses I hade from completing collections, like the Spy glass or the Lucky cap.
What to do? Carry on with playing and go for it, or just forget about the 4 greenies and get a new Golden dice in the week end. I don’t like wasting thing so I played.
Instead of selling all my planes, I decided to speed up the one I had and maximize the use of the Golden dice and the maps.
First I activated the map for Sacramento, sent the Jet and instead of waiting to be able to use the Fuel Catalyst, as the Golden dice wouldn’t be active anymore anyway, I speeded up and completed the flight. As to my surprise, and totally to the opposite to the excavation maps I got 2 drops and decided to carry on and repeatedly sent and seeded up the flights. It took me 17 flights to get all 5 items but then decided to go for the 30 flights required to get an extra star.
Altogether, it took me the following to complete the collections:
Sacramento: 17 Flights, 2480 Passengers, 868 Fuel & 1736 to seed up; 2604 in total
Puerto Rico 44 Flights, 3520 Passengers, 1232 Fuel & 2464 to seed up; 3696 in total
Alexandria 45 Flights, 3600 Passengers, 1260 Fuel & 2520 to seed up; 3780 in total
Miami 16 Flights, 1280 Passengers, 416 Fuel & 832 to seed up; 1248 in total
Nagoya 34 Flights, 2720 Passengers, 884 Fuel & 1768 to seed up; 2652 in total
I also used 94 Spare Wire & 76 Additional Radar and needed to repair the planes quite a lot (more than usual without being able to quantify it): 10 Aircraft Tire, 5 Cockpit Glass, 5 Jet Engine, 2 Paint and 1 Passenger Seat
As an average, it took 32 Flights, 2720 Passengers and 2796 Fuel to complete a collection using the Golden Dice. In Total it's 13600 Passengers and 13980 Fuel for 170 Flights and their speed up.
As a summary, easiest was the Orphans of the Sky collection flying to Miami for which I got 1 item of each required. Creation Myths, The Little Ones and Space Garden were average difficult to complete.
The hardest was or I should say is the Across the Universe collection flying to Puerto Rico, for which after 44 launches I am still missing one item (Cygnus, even if I got 9 Ursa Major). This is the time where my phone decided to run out of battery So frustrating! I probably should have skipped getting the extra star to Sacramento and would have a few extra flights for Puerto Rico …
Next time I will use the flight catalyst technique to compare the outcomes
I made an excel file to track my progress in the collections; if anyone is interested I will try to upload it. Let me know.
