Excuse my newness, could someone please tell me what friend code means and how it differs from username etc ?

Friend code have only Android users, Crapple users (iPad, iPhone) have username.
The code or the username you need to enter when you would like to invite someone to become your neighbour.
But in any case would be better, that you notify that user via Alert on this forum.

As you are on iPad it doesn't mean anything to your game android game have both so if you want to invite neighbours on android games you need to use friend code. Have a look at some members and you will see this on theirs profiles. Hope this helps. Oh most phones have friend codes
