Convert land expansions

This is probably a stupid question, but I'm going to ask anyway!

After a major update last year, I ended up with a whole lot of unused airport expansion land. Is there by chance any way to convert that land to residential/commercial land?

Again, I know it's probably a stupid question, but I wanted to ask anyway and maybe just generate some discussion on the subject. Maybe having that ability might be something the developers would consider adding in the future.

No, there isn't a way to do that.

As Chloe said, no. It has been asked for, apparently considered ( according to Walter) but not kept as an idea.
