It is challenging, but definitely not impossible. The alliance I am currently in has been in the top 100 for the last 2 weeks. We have all been playing together for the past 2 months or so and have all grown our airports and increased our passengers carried over time. We are currently at 19/20...

@diwata I have not updated either and at this point I cannot send ANY gifts.. Even to other folks who have not updated. When I send a gift, it does not give me a pop-up window. My neighbors confirmed they did not receive them :( **EDIT** Apparently now I CAN send gifts. Not sure what is going...

I am on Android and have not yet updated. Some people's airports looks like what you posted above... Covered by an avalanche! But there are still neighbors I can visit. I also cannot send ANY gifts to anyone! So far I am still able to fly and collect passengers and play the game normally...
