I'm from Ottawa, Canada - not the center of the universe but close to it ;)
Last time I was in Ottawa was courtesy of the U. S. Navy. Enjoyed my stay - had some "Locals" come visit and we went water skiing off the stern of my Sub!! Drank a lot of beer - a lot !!! Chloe11111 What is the name of that very large hotel overlooking the St. Lawrence ???? It was a beautiful place and view !!!

If you were in Ottawa, it would have been overlooking the Ottawa River. The St. Lawrence is about an hour away. But given you were there with a submarine, I''m guessing you were actually in Montreal because there would never be a submarine in the Ottawa River unless you came through a tiny canal and about 17 tiny locks.

If it was Ottawa, there is the Chateau Laurier - old historic hotel. There's the Westin - newer, right on the canal and with a view of the river. There are several other large hotels in downtown Ottawa, but nothing right on the river although most have a view of it if you're high enough.

As for beer, we have a lot of it here in Canada :)

Chloe obviously I have the incorrect city. It was definitely the st Lawrence. That I'm sure of because we came in via the Gulf of St Lawrence. Saw many many whales. So what was the city. Oh just thought of it. I met a gal in Halifax who was from Ottawa! That's where I got Ottawa from. Now what city was I in on the St. L ??? Luv that Molson!

If most people were English, it might have been Kingston. It's right at the end of the River before entering the Great Lakes. Although, there is a military base in Trenton as well (air force) but that's into the lake. If there were a lot of French people, it would be Quebec City or Montreal.

As for beer, I prefer the microbrewery stuff. But I had a dog named Molson ;)
