I noticed that I all of the sudden I can not hold more than 300 unopened gifts at a time. Since when was this limit placed on gifting?

Its been this way for years.
This list shows 300 + whatever Malden and Small village have sent.
Other gifts are still in the list, take some and refresh (reload/visit neighbour) and they’ll appear.

So after 300 they just don’t show? If I let it
Build up I won’t lose any right?

Different people say different things. I’ve had 1200+ before, maybe more. Did I lose some? Well that’s a difficult question to answer.
Some people have reported 3H gaps in gifts when saving large numbers. But is this a server glitch? Coincidence? Lost gifts?
Sometimes my inbox messes up, shows one gift & account, then changes when I collect so.....

My experience, you won’t lose huge numbers of gifts. But I can’t guarantee you’ll have every one that was sent.

I suspect I might have lost some. but I still hold collecting until the last day when I’m preparing a run.
and I try not having too many uncollected before an upgrade

yes, they show a countdown, so it’s easy to keep track. I’ve picked some literally minutes before due
