Before anyone tells me to look in Wiki, I am well aware of the factual differences between the Silver and Gold subscriptions. I have been a Silver subscriber for a few months and during lockdown in the UK I have found AC to be a welcome distraction.

I am considering moving to Gold and can see the differences in terms of “game features” but wondered if any Gold members would be able to share their feelings as to whether the extra monthly cost was worthwhile for them. Has anyone moved to Gold only to find it didn’t suit their style of game play. Both positives and drawbacks would be welcome.

Thanks in advance for any advice and thanks for you time in reading this post.

Stay safe

I had gold for a while, never had silver.
As you would expect, it’s a bit hard to adapt once it expires. Zero breakdowns is handy, as is good weather. But at the same time it takes away an element of game play. I didn’t find the flight time decrease that useful, other than with condors. As these have a 12H flight time, it allowed 2 send outs per day without being regiment on time. Most of the other planes I was flying were around 8H flight time, the decrease didn’t allow any extra sends in a day so not that helpful. The additional fuel storage is great, as is the production. I did find myself speeding up a fair few flights due to excess fuel.

There is a fairly steep difference in price which I struggle to justify. I justified it to myself over 6 months as £0.60 a day (~£18 a month). That’s around one hour overtime for me, and allowed me to progress a lot more for that cost. Ultimately I stopped as there were a few changes to game play I wasn’t that happy with, and due to a lot of map flying often my fuel bar was beyond full, so you miss a lot of the benefits. Furthermore, as a L80 the coins and experience didn’t make a noticeable difference to my game play, and as previously mentioned the breakdowns and weather changes removed an element of gameplay. I felt as though I was paying 3 times as much for twice as much fuel production and storage increase. There are other ways to get more fuel in game for free, enough to sustain my planes and run map flights. Subscriptions don’t really help with map flying.
I could have used the same money to upgrade my oil refinery for +40 fuel forever - not sure what I’d rather have done. I definitely find it easier to justify subscriptions to myself than one off purchases. But additional land is what I need, and in hindsight I think I’d have appreciated the greens more than the subscription. Land is permanent, allowing you to grow, to fly more, to make more money. The sub is a temporary measure to allow this. It really helps to boost passenger numbers per week.
Have a think about your goals and what you want to achieve, see if that helps to make a decision on the matter.

Mike,

Thank you for your thoughts which have been really helpful. The benefits are only worth the extra money if they help you achieve your own objectives and I did wonder if the breakdown free was a real benefit. Since I started I have always collected enough spares from the guest planes to meet the immediate spares requirement.

Your reply has given me some useful tips and will help me make my decision.

I appreciate your time and trouble to reply.

Regards,

Keith
