I wondered about that myself already and think as well that it's odd to request the same amount to save 8:40 h when you use it immediately or 31 seconds because at 30 seconds, it jumps from 84 fuel to zero.

However, I assume that you know your bed time and that it might help to fly to a destination that only takes 8 hours when you start the flight 8:10h before your bed time.
