Maximizing population

I currently have a level 6 townhall and am surprised how few buildings I can build compared to some other people with the same townhall. Am I missing something that helps maximize the use of my population?

I currently have a level 6 townhall and am surprised how few buildings I can build compared to some other people with the same townhall. Am I missing something that helps maximize the use of my population?

Event building rewards generally increase population rather than use it.
Grand Hotels add 300 to your population, 3x3 land space, for 300 silver tokens. These are key.
If you click on the population icon (the little people) in the top left of your in game screen, you can see what buildings are contributing to your population.
Have a look at the big users and get rid/store them. Also look through your warehouse to see if you have anything that can increase it.
