Kittens, what R they good 4?

Hi, I am rather new to this game not sure writing in the right place. Got a question (actually, many questions but this one sort of bothers the most): a while ago kittens started falling out the sky as rewards for different missions. Very nice, but what are they good for? Any use?

Event items. The pink heart left of main screen in game.
If get enough - can claim small daily reward... and spend them for items in event shop.
Any unspent will get converted to coins at event end.

Events are great fun and give you an aim for a number of days - This is a long term game, so sometimes I focus more on expanding my city than running after event wins - prizes are nice though
