How do I use the Ice shield bonus in the event mini game?

You just click on them whenever you want. My issue is that playing on tablet does not allow two taps at one point, so often instead of initiating the bonus I hit the house or plane.

Finally after more than 30 runs I was able to get to the end. There are areas where you cannot make it without ice shield. The winter time helps, but some planes and buildings are too close to pass through.

I'm using the space bar and mouse, but find it hard to coordinate both. Crash a lot. Oh well, no big deal. Thanks for the advice.
