Gifting and Signatures

First of all, I'd like to say "thank you" to all my wonderful neighbors who have taken the time to complete their signatures, listing what their needs are, or who have added an item that they need to their name. It makes gifting a pleasure instead of a time-consuming chore.

I'm sorry - but if you don't say what you need or want, I don't have the time to go visiting your airport to try to get an idea of what planes you are flying or what you are building so that I will know what to send you. The odds are you are going to get a landing lamp or passengers from me, or a flight item that I need. Also, if you send me something you want returned, the odds are you will get fuel(3). I cannot return mcc3 antennas, or level 6 control tower items or other buildings I have completed. Those are long gone from my list of items to gift - and my signature reflects that!

Anyway, rant over - please, please, please - complete your signatures, list your needs - flight, repair & building. If you're not going to take advantage of the benefits of this forum, why are you even here?

No passengers please (n)

I have noticed this an increasingly amount of times recently. Many of those I see nothing really
listed or only building items are not always newer players either. Really if you know what is going
on here at all you should have your building needs if any and a range of flight items/repair items.
I say a range as though at higher levels the high level flight items are essential there are always
lower level items we could use as well. This helps when you get a new lower level player who just
does not have the higher level items.

So yes I agree @crescent moon and while at it put a range of flight/repair items so you can always
get something useful. Nothing I dislike more than having to look up a gift and then finding nothing
listed. Which for me also includes just posting flight items and not actually listing any.

Good Morning Flyboys and Flygirls (Saturday 24th June 08.40am GMT London)

I have often wanted to gift to new neighbours and have found their signatures empty or lacking in detail, and have moved on to other neighbours. Also worth mentioning, perhaps this is just my problem, but I do find small text which is light coloured, against a white background, difficult to read.

I know I'm one of those guilty parties that does not keep his signature too updated. Typically I look at folks game names first to see what they need and occasionally check their signatures. I've kept my neighbors list small so that it is easy to manage. I have a few neighbors that I tend to send the same stuff to for awhile (sorry @Captain WH Rollins just noticed you don't need as many Fuel Hoses anymore). Typically I'll drop a note to specific folks if I am in search of an item for one of my games.
If there is an item next to my game name I would always appreciate the help. If nothing appears there that you can send, save your gift for another neighbor...I will not hold it against anyone as I typically only have about 25-30 neighbors per account so I send out stuff all the time anyways.

Not too worry, all gifts are always greatly appreciated and are used.

When I started playing AC around five years ago and found this forum, my gifting philosophy was to come here and look up what each player who gifted me wanted as a gift. It took a lot of time but, hey, I was so enthusiastic about the game. Time passed and my enthusiasm -- with every flawed update and nasty bug -- diminished.
Then, a short while ago, GI made it possible for iOS players to change their game name any time they wanted. This is a real blessing. Instead of taking about 15 minutes to do my daily gifting, it now takes only a few. If you send me my specified gift, I will send you your specified gift. If you don't specify a gift, I will send you something I could use if you return it. If I can't gift you one day, I will do so the next. If you send me a gift I don't need (one that's not in my signature or on my profile list), I will not return it.
What was complicated and time-consuming is now simple and fast. Hooray!
Cheers,
Tom

It's already time consuming enough to look up everyone's signatures to see what they want. I am not willing to do additional research.
@Robobobo888
I understand and I agree. That's why I changed my gifting to what I said in a previous post. Now that people who play on iOS devices can change their player name at any time, you don't need to look up everyone's signatures. Right now, my signature is Tom-Ereaders ... which means my neighbors know to send me Ereaders. If Joe-NavMod gifts me an Ereader, I will gift him a Navigation Module. If JoeSmith gifts me an Ereader, I will return the Ereader to him. If JoeSmith gifts me a Gyroscope, I send him nothing.
If you changed your player name to Robobo-WallSpkr, your neighbors would know to send you a Wall Speaker if that is giftable for them. All without spending the time to look up a signature.
Cheers,
Tom
