Do Santa Jets = Thunderbirds?

Does anyone know if keeping a Santa Jet in inventory will result in getting Thunderbird destinations for your Alliance Tasks next week?

Yes, I had that happen to me the week before last.
you will need the items for T-birds but only get 38 pax.
I sold all my Santa jets and will use the collections that are in the warehouse the next time the event comes to get the planes back

No, sell them!

When you have the Thunderbirds only in your inventory then they don't count against your tasks, only if you have the in your active fleet or in your reserve hangar.
And they only counts for most and lowest planes, but not for highest (I still get Falcon tasks as highest but have a active Santa Jet).

Santa Jets didn't count toward my Alliance missions this week or last week.

I have 3 each of Owl/Air Lab, Raven, Eagle and Santa Jets.

My Alliance Missions this week:
Bali Island (Owl/Air Lab) 25
Iceland (Eagle) 29
Dresden (Eagle) 58

Last week was the same (Mission #1 Owl, Mission #2/3 Eagle)

So it doesn't seem that it counted toward either Mission #2 (highest plane) or Mission #3 (most planes, tie goes to highest plane).

I was same and assume it is because I haven't built (furniture factory?) to unlock those flights.
