I am getting ready for the crossbill helicopter and was wondering how much it costs per trip. I know you go in the hole because the sparrow goes in the hole with profit but just wanted to know on average how much. To me it is worth it because of the stars and little xp since I can not keep up with the stars I want per level just by flying planes

The first Crossbill destination is Iguazu Falls. A typical requirement for this flight is 3 drive, 1 tail. The three drive will also cost you 3 sensors and 3 gears and the tail will also cost you 1 varnish and one sensor. So to fly to this destination you need 3 drive, 1 tail, 4 sensors, 3 gears, 1 varnish, 8 fuel and 6 passengers. You will receive 149 coins and 11 experience points.

Subsequent destinations require increasing amounts until you reach the final Crossbill destination Rideau Falls.

Rideau Falls has a typical requirement of 2 valve, 7 pyramids and 10 gears. The 2 valves will each need a mic and a gear, the 7 pyramids will each need a varnish and a mic and the 10 gears will each need a gear and a sensor. So the total requirement for this destination is 2 valve, 7 pyramids, 10 gears, 9 mic, 12 gears, 7 varnish, 10 sensors, 8 fuel and six passengers. You will receive 529 coins and 45 experience points.

Wait until you start flying the Goldfinch!

You will not make any money flying helicopters but you should cover your costs.

I had the same "it's worth it" logic. One thing I will say, I got tired of trying to complete the flights with only one mechanical plant (given the number of items required at the higher level flights as @pete blake mentioned) and built a second one - so now I have two resource bases and two mechanical plants. It's still taking too long for my tastes but I'm now almost finished crossbill flights with 2 stars on Rideau Falls.

The other part of "worth it" is the buildings from the collections that give pax and commerce bonuses. So I think before flying Denalis, I will go back to the other flights and complete a few of the building collections (e.g. detox hotel and archaeological base camp)
