I have 1 repair slot because I use repair items or videos to speed up the repairs.
Reserve base slots help you expand your fleet, so I have upgraded this using gold and silver tokens, as well as greenies.

How many planes do you have? 
I have three repair slots and almost never use them all. There are certainly times when a second comes in very handy, as you are all out of items and videos.

I find I only need 1 repair slot(speed up) but I find if you want to keep planes always have 1 more spot than number of planes so you can switch them in and out easily.
