Only got the email request on android, not on windows PC.  I wonder if it has to do with being sure we have a google account with google play.  I know in the past GI support has said they won't support a game that wasn't downloaded through google play (like an apk) - maybe that has something to do with it???  I was tempted to try to enter a different email address rather than my google play address, but I was afraid I'd lose my game.   Watching closely for any new spam!
