Has anyone else notice that when the game offers the 5x coin / 3x money promo that Windows Store actually charges a different amount than the game has advertised?

the amount advertised does not include currency conversion fee if needed or sales tax.

But there is several warnings from Microsoft or google store that either conversion and/or sales tax will be charge prior to buying.

1. What amount you were expecting to pay?
2. What amount you have actually paid?
3. What jurisdiction are you in (or to be more specific: your MS account is registered in?)

BTW the value of coin multiplier differs depending on your game level, starting at 3, then 5 and eventually reaching 7.

cosmic blue is correct, every time I buy greenies or coins in Michigan I pay a 6% sales tax, so it changes the price, for instance I buy 10 greens at 4.99, I get charged 4.99 + 6% , so I pay $5.28 total

Thanks for the replies, gang. Currency is USD. For example, the game advertises $8.99, however the charge from Microsoft is $9.99. I didn't pay attention to details and notice that Microsoft does display the price as $9.99. I am aware of applicable taxes; this issue relates to the purchase price only, not applicable taxes. This is for Windows 10 on version 5.2.6.

After the first incident, I decided to check out the other items and made an interesting discovery. The issue of Microsoft Store charging a different amount than advertised in the game is when the 5x promotion is running, and the price change only occurs on coins, not on cash.

Now that I'm aware of the problem, it's not too big of a deal. GI acknowledged the bug and will have devops work to fix it. Just a surprise the first time and wanted to make others aware.

Apologies for the newb posting this in news instead of bugs sub-forum.

Are you suggesting not to make coin purchases in general, or use alternative methods to purchase coins.
Exactly what Sacto said. For example that 9$ purchase is 80k coins (per your printscreen). You are now level 30+ which allows you to build red pad. For this you need some decent amount of coins (red pad, upgrade of mission control and runway level 5 at least). This cost 600k. Easies way to obtain it is to visit daily people with at least 5 planetariums - collection you will receive from those visits can give you much more per week then you can buy. Also red launches (joined with neighbors from forum can give you same amount within few hours (even more).
For start if you are eager to spend real money - buy green notes on sale (for the same amount of $ you can get 96 greennotes while on sale). With this green notes 2 hours prior to reset time (2am in my country every day) buy golden dice for 4 green notes and visit your friends planetariums, repeat the process after game reset - with same amount spent you will be able to do 24 visits every 2 days and you'll get 80k coins within few days.
For example I can visit 12 players daily. With addition of friends in need bonus I can visit 10 buildings per player instead of 5. With golden dice active I can get 100-120 launch boxes per day. Let's say half of them are collection which gives you 2000 coins each - so it's 100k per day coins.
If you take into account that you can visit 5 buildings instead of 10 let's half this amount and it will still leave you on 50k per day (lets say you can visit 9 friends instead of 12 cut the amount for another 1/3 and some realistic amount for you will be around 35k coins per day - and if you do it prior and after game reset, within 2-3 hours you will get very close to your 80k per visit per golden dice).
In rough math buying same amount of green notes is 24 times more worth then buying same amount of coins.
