I wouldn't bother wasting the space to buy more plants. Once the Heli flights are 3 starred, you won't realistically use them unless you are completing 30 speed ups per day. And for that you'd fly sparrows

I can’t remember for Heli’s, but for aircraft you can still repair during upgrade. With that in mind, logically you should be able to. Either way, the upgrade time shouldn’t be long. A tip, if you fly the heli to the first destination, of its level/type, it won’t break down.

In short, no. The game is predominately an offline game, with locally saved progress (I.e. progress is saved on your device).
