I think the window may actually be however long you take in between installing the broken update and restarting your game (which installs a patch)... on windows at least. Bear in mind you can't add to space launches (plus miscellaneous other stuff) in the interim. I had no space to take...

What Mike said! I was clicking on other people's gift shops and getting nothing, but when I built my own, they started dropping items pretty regularly. (I get you can't build them if you aren't getting the drops from the flights... but use a spy glass or two if you can.)

@iambobone I agree that the best way to learn is through experience, whether that is positive or negative, but not so much with the 'it happened to me, so I can also behave that way'. If we all did that, it wouldn't be pretty... Saying that, I did encounter a similar situation to one you...
