perhaps it was stored in a cards hangar...
I've noticed that since the last update all the planes I'd previously owned (but sold) at the time now show in the warehouse. They look as though I could use them if I wanted.

Yes from the card hangars you can sell them.

Exactly, the last update put all regular planes sitting in special hangars into the warehouse.
I've never had any of the special hangars, so that's not where mine came from.
