Sunday evening book club, hosted at my house.

Main course: ground beef tacos from scratch (not a grocery-store seasoning packet), with grass-fed beef; corn tortillas fried in canola oil, guacamole, fire-roasted salsa, cheddar cheese & Monterrey jack, fresh tomatoes and butter lettuce, lime wedges for squeezing.

Contributed by other club members: spinach salad; whole black beans; white cake with whipped cream and fresh berries.

The book was "The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America" by Richard Rothstein, about the history of de jure residential segregation in 20th century United States. We highly recommend this book, especially to fellow US citizens. It got the highest average rating ever in our group's history (unanimous 5 out of 5). To give context for that distinction: we've discussed ~175 books over 17+ years.

It was ok, good mixture of food. Obvs pizza but also pastas, burgers, salads, wings etc etc and my fave Belgian moon wheat beer :)

Always enjoy drinking Belgian beer, such a wide variety to choose from, can be a little pricey, but you get what you pay for, so do not mind.

It sound like a really great evening of good food, good drink, conversation, discussion and good company.

We often have themed evenings, during the week, playing retro board games, or relaxed discussions on cinema, photography, music. life etc. We also enjoy having live music during the weekends, a jazz trio group (saxaphone, bass and guiter) or classical music quartet (strings). With good food, good drinks and the company of family, friends and neighbours, it is a great way of spending time together.

That sounds amazing, and not something I would be comfortable putting together . . . . but maybe you have inspired me.

We had proper mothering sunday fare yesterday - roast joint of pork with all the trimmings followed by fruit crumble and custard - real good hearty food as it is so still winter here! - only problem is I have caught gastroenteritis and had to avoid even being near the food so completely missed out!

Not good, good neighbour - get well soon. Hope the V&D were not too severe?

Lunch for today - not really wishing to get dress, put my shoes on and go out today, I made lunch at home - left over lamb and a few roast potato's (from Sunday lunch) and two eggs, made an omelette - just simple.

how do you make the taco seasoning. That would be something I’d enjoy trying myself.
It really is worth the effort. It is way better than you get with the seasoning packet.

I used a recipe from America's Test Kitchen, which you can find online at: http://www.geniuskitchen.com/amp/recipe/americas-test-kitchen-beef-tacos-502216 . Apologies to people who prefer recipes in metric measurements; it does not have metric equivalents listed.

I suggest you download the receipe and save it in case it gets taken down from the site.

I have friends who prepare this recipe with half beef and half buffalo, but I have not tried that variation. I cook meat rarely enough that just buying beef feels exotic enough for me :ROFLMAO:

@PhactorPhil will be happy to know that Portillos has invaded the Twin Cities. The food was good but the chocolate cake milkshake I had with it was incredible. The food coma it put me into this afternoon was well worth it

Woo hoo! Their milkshakes are awesome! Better yet, get a piece of their chocolate cake. Best. Cake. Ever.

Yesterday evening I retired to bed early, to enjoy a live BBC Radio Three classical broadcast. Awoke 5 hours later, feeling refreshed, logged into my game and the forum members, something I do not normally do.
