The best and perhaps only way to really judge a film's success is across the passage of time, and not just when they are first released. These two stand out films are both wonderful examples and have stood up to repeated viewing, across many years. They can both be purchased for less than £10.00 and I would very much recommend them.

Cinderella Man (2005)
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003)

Those of you who enjoy classic science fiction films, Forbidden Planet (1956) is a stand out film, which has had a profound influence on the science fiction genre. Nominated for an Academy Award, for special effects, it was far ahead of its time and has stood up to the passage of time as a true science fiction classic, over the past six decades.

Those of you who enjoy the film noire genre these two films are fine examples Double Indemnity (1944) and Sunset Boulevard (1950) - they are both listed in the American Film Institute's list of 100 best films of the 20th century - I would recommend them very much.

Continuing with the film noire genre these classic black and white films The Big Sleep (1946) and The Maltese Falcon (1941) are two more fine examples - I would recommend them very much.

Those of you who have enjoyed watching the The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
will also enjoy The Green Mile (1999) - both these films were directed by the same director, Frank Darabont - two of his best films
